Person of the Month: Emily Rang

Where you were born and raised: Born in Longmont, CO moved to Omaha, NE then landed in Gig Harbor, WA by the time I was 10.

Educational Background: Graduated Gig Harbor High School; went to college at California State University, Fresno on a NCAA Equestrian Team scholarship; got BS in Animal Science

Brief Employment History: Worked for the City of Merced, CA as an Insurance/Risk Specialist, moved back to WA in 2007 where I got a job working for the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) for the State of WA. I’m an IT Supervisor

Earliest horse memory: Dragging my dad across the street at our house in Longmont, CO to pet the horses that lived in the pasture

Hobbies other than riding: Camping, hiking, kayaking, salmon fishing with my husband, truck camper and two dogs!

Heroes and inspirations: Best friend Beth Knapp Williams, avid horsewoman and Agriculture Teacher; Eleanor Roosevelt; Temple Grandin

Anything folks would be surprised to learn about you: I am the first flight field master for the Woodbrook Hunt Club in Lakewood, WA (Not really surprising for the two or three people in Adult Riders that know me, but most of you don’t know me!)

Where do you hope to be in 10 years: competing on my OTTB, working less hours and foxhunting more!
